Liverpool teenager Ben Doak has been one of the breakthrough stars of pre-season and has impressed captain Virgil van Dijk
Anyone who watched him for the first time during pre-season discovered, Ben Doak isn’t one to stand on ceremony.
Witness his contribution just moments after being introduced in the glamour friendly against Bayern Munich in Singapore last week, producing a neat turn on the halfway line to leave his marker flailing before sprinting away down the right wing and creating a chance for fellow youngster Bobby Clark.
There was more of the same in Monday’s final warm-up match against SV Darmstadt, when Doak’s thrilling cameo wowed the crowd at Preston North End’s Deepdale and those watching at home.
Factor in a goal in the 4-0 win over Leicester City and two impressive outings in Germany earlier in pre-season, it has been a summer in which the 17-year-old has followed the example of Stefan Bajcetic the previous year and grabbed with both hands the opportunity to impress alongside first-team players.
