Liverpool fans were furious after they were denied a penalty by VAR after Nicolas Jackson handled from Luis Diaz’s header
Chelsea were handed a reprieve in their Premier League encounter with Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp’s side were denied a penalty despite Nicolas Jackson appearing to handle Luis Diaz’s effort.
Diaz saw his goalward-bound header blocked by Jackson – which struck the hand of the former Villarreal forward. There was a brief check from VAR but Anthony Taylor wasn’t directed to view the monitor or overturn his initial decision.
After a brief consultation with his colleagues at Stockley Park, Taylor’s initial decision stood and Liverpool were instead awarded a corner.
the penalty not awarded due to VAR officials deeming the proximity of Diaz’s header making contact with Jackson, whose arms were tucked in, ensured he had no time to react following the effort from the Liverpool forward.
Diaz opened the scoring at Stamford Bridge after sliding home from an incisive pass from Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian thought he doubled their lead after converting past Robert Sanchez but Jurgen Klopp’s side were denied a second, following the intervention of the Video Assistant.
Liverpool were spared going behind immediately after Axel Disasi’s equaliser when Ben Chilwell was adjudged to have drifted offside, moments after parity was restored.
