Mac Allister became Klopp’s first signing of the summer when he joined from Brighton & Hove Albion back in June. The 24-year-old scored 20 goals in 112 appearances for the Seagulls and helped Argentina win the 2022 World Cup.
He featured heavily for Liverpool during pre-season and made his Premier League debut for the Reds in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Mac Allister played a major role in Luis Diaz’s opener, with his searching pass setting Mohamed Salah free down the right.
“A great joy to be able to debut with this great shirt, and that I waited so long,” he told Paramount+ after the game when asked what it was like to make his competitive debut.
“Since I made my debut with this shirt, I’m really looking forward to my first game. After a hard pre-season, it happened, and well, it’s also a joy to have my family in the stadium supporting me. A day I will never forget.”
Liverpool dominated the early stages of the game at Stamford Bridge, and soon after Salah struck the bar, the Egyptian forward delivered a stunning pass for Diaz to slide home the opening goal of the game after 18 minutes. However, Chelsea debutant Axel Disasi equalised for the hosts in the 37th minute.
“Very intense; we knew that they improved a lot in the pre-season with a new coach and new players,” Mac Allister said reflecting on the clash.
“In the end, a draw, which is not what we wanted because we obviously wanted to win, but it’s a draw in the end, and it helps to start the season.”
Mac Allister also believes that fellow international team-mate Enzo Fernandez showed why Chelsea paid £106.8m to Benfica for his services back in January with his performance against the Reds.
He said: “I have already faced him several times – I have played with him, he is a great player. I respect him a lot, we have a great relationship.
