The assistant referee involved in a controversial incident with Andy Robertson during a draw with Arsenal in April will this weekend play a part in the Reds’ home clash with Bournemouth.
Constantine Hatzidakis was involved in a bizarre incident with Robertson as the pair made their way off the pitch at half-time, appearing to elbow the Reds’ left-back after being confronted by the defender.
The 38-year-old was stood down as an FA investigation into this altercation was launched, though soon returned to action after being cleared of any wrongdoing. Hatzidakis apologised to Roberson via a statement issued by Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), in which he explained the pair had cleared the air over a private Zoom call.
Hatzidakis has not been appointed for a game involving Liverpool since this occurred, though will serve as assistant VAR for Saturday’s meeting with Bournemouth at Anfield.
Also set to be on VAR duty for this fixture will be Paul Tierney, who Jurgen Klopp has publicly criticised on multiple occasions -Anthony Taylor, who took charge of Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Chelsea, will serve as the fourth official and the referee will be Thomas Bramall. Bramall was promoted to Select Group 1, the most high-profile officials, ahead of the previous campaign and this will represent his first top-flight fixture involving Liverpool.
