Thiago Alcantara’s agent has given a cryptic uipdate on the Liverpool midfielder’s next step, amid reported interest from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli
Thiago Alcantara’s agent has dropped a hint over the midfielder’s immediate future at Liverpool.
The Spaniard has been sidelined with a hip injury for more than three months, making just 18 league appearances last season. Thiago, 32, has been working on his recovery after undergoing surgery in order to resolve the long-term issue for Liverpool’s number six.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich midfielder has reportedly been the subject of interest from Saudi Arabia this summer. It is claimed that Thiago has been identified as a target for Al-Ahli, with suggestions that the club are preparing a £10.3million bid, though Liverpool are yet to receive a formal offer for the Spain international.
Despite the potential concerns over Thiago’s future at Anfield, his agent Guillermo Perez has shared an encouraging update on social media. Quoting a post from Thiago wearing a Liverpool shirt, Perez wrote, “Anfield awaits. YNWA”. This suggests that the midfield maestro could be set to return to the matchday squad for the home game with Bournemouth on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
Thiago, who has entered the final year of his contract, resumed training earlier this month but was not included for the club’s opening league game with Chelsea. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was asked if the Res had received any offers for Thiago and explained the important role that he expects the midfielder to play this season.
“No, there is nothing. Honestly. Thiago is now training. Nobody asked [about him],“ klopp said earlier this month. “He came in and asked about his role and we spoke. Super experienced player, he stepped up in that department.
“He has only been in team training for a week but very vocal, he is going to be very helpful for us.”
