The Egyptian is unquestionably one of Liverpool’s best signings of a generation; a face well-known around the world and an icon in both his homeland and on Merseyside. With 186 goals to his name from 305 matches, he currently sits joint fifth – with Steven Gerrard – on the club’s all-time list of top scorers.
However, of late speculation has began to swirl that Salah could become the latest high-profile target for clubs in Saudi Arabia. Indeed, Liverpool have already been plundered on three occasions this summer by clubs in their ever-improving Pro-League. And while Liverpool were powerless to prevent Roberto Firmino walking away as a free agent, the sales of both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson both came as a major surprise.
The trio are also joining in the Middle East by another Reds icon in Gerrard, who manages the Al-Ettifaq side whom Henderson now plays for.
The loss of Salah though would be the most bitter pill of all. And of late, speculation is mounting that the player is a target for Al Ittihad, who have made an lucrative offer to the 31-year-old.
Indeed, they were reportedly willing to pay Salah an ludicrous salary of £154.8m over two seasons, worth a staggering £1.4m a week. In addition, they were offering Liverpool a sizeable sum of cash to accept his sale.
And while reports on Wednesday suggested both Salah and another of their targets Alisson Becker were committed to Anfield, the speculation refuses to go away.
Robbie Fowler pushing for Salah to stay at Liverpool
With Jurgen Klopp seemingly having no interest in cashing in on Salah, the German is hoping the rumours quickly ebb away.
However, those hopes have now been given a helping hand by Robbie Fowler, who himself manages in Saudi with Al-Qadsiah.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Fowler insists he will do all he can to ensure Salah remains on Merseyside.
“I’ll put in a word for him to stay. I want him to stay at Liverpool. But good players will always get linked here because this country and this Pro League wants good players and that’s the simplicity of it,” Fowler stated.
Asked about the exits to Saudi from Anfield already this summer, the 48-year-old stated that the business this summer shows the Saudis mean business.
“I think it’s a huge statement, we spoke before about where this country wants to be.
“When you’re signing players who are playing for England, and Liverpool’s captain, it’s huge, it really is, and it just shows you the power of what can happen if you want it badly.”
With Liverpool hopeful of keeping Salah, the Reds can continue their push to strengthen their depleted squad.
And with the Reds in need of new midfield additions, the club hope to soon bring in Japan star Wataru Endo.
In addition, there are claims gathering pace that an unbelievable hijack of a Manchester United deal is also on the cards.
