Your Liverpool digest as two players missing from training as Ryan Gravenberch interest ‘reignited.
Curtis Jones and Joel Matip were among those missing from full Liverpool training at the AXA Centre on Wednesday afternoon.
Jones was a second-half substitute during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at the weekend and replaced Cody Gakpo with just under 25 minutes remaining in West London. Matip, meanwhile, was surplus to requirements as Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk were given the nod by manager Jurgen Klopp for the Premier League opener.
On Wednesday, neither player appeared to take part in first-team training at the AXA Training Centre as the rest of their team-mates were put through their paces ahead of this weekend’s clash against Bournemouth. The duo were the only senior members of Sunday’s squad not pictured in the session.
However, it must be stressed that it is not uncommon for players to miss sessions between games as they work on individual programmes or, as has been the case of both Jones in recent months, to manage their workloads.
Ryan Gravenberch latest as Liverpool ‘reactivate’ interest after double transfer blow
Liverpool are believed to have reactivated their interest in Ryan Gravenberch as the club looks to strengthen Jurgen Klopp’s midfield options.
The Netherlands international joined the German giants from Ajax last summer, but despite winning the Bundesliga during his maiden campaign with the club, Gravenberch was limited to only three league starts.
As a result, the 21-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena this summer in a bid to secure regular game time. And the ECHO understands that Liverpool have now reopened channels to explore interest in Gravenberch after initially placing the midfielder on a list of possible targets at the start of the window.
However, as things stand, Liverpool have only made initial contact, and there is no immediate suggestion that a deal will be pursued with Bayern for the midfielder. The Anfield club is believed to be assessing a number of midfield options after missing out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
