Endo has been undergoing his medical with Liverpool on Thursday ahead of an unexpected transfer from Stuttgart. The 30-year-old will become one of their new defensive midfielders after the exits of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Endo has come after they missed out on options for the long term such as Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

The Japan captain will be playing in the Premier League for the first time by coming to Liverpool. Therefore, not many might know what to expect from him.

However, former Liverpool midfielder Hamann – who these days works as a Bundesliga pundit – has revealed why he thinks Endo can be a success story at Anfield.

Hamann tweeted: “I think Endo will surprise a few people. Technically very gifted and disciplined.

“Think he’s made for that role, kept a struggling side together in the last few seasons. He’ll also be better with more talent around him.”

Endo will have some big responsibilities at Liverpool after a summer in which they have said goodbye to Fabinho, Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arthur Melo and Fabio Carvalho, while welcoming Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to their midfield.

Arguably a more obscure option than some of their previous targets this summer, Endo will nevertheless be keen to showcase what he can do.

Stuttgart boss acknowledges Endo’s dream move

Joining Liverpool at this stage of his career can be classed as a ‘dream’ move, according to Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness.

Hoeness said: “He has the possibility at the age of 30 to move to Liverpool. It’s a dream of his.

“From the club’s point of view, we’re speaking about a good package economically. From a sporting and human perspective, he is an important player. He was always there in important moments.”

Liverpool will be paying a fee in the region of €19m (£16.2m) to sign Endo, who won promotion to the Bundesliga in his first season with Stuttgart and has been with them in the top flight for three seasons since.
