Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on Alexis Mac Allister’s red card after the 3-1 Premier League win against Bournemouth at Anfield
Jurgen Klopp has hinted Liverpool will consider appealing the sending-off that cut short Alexis Mac Allister’s home debut.
Mac Allister was given a straight red card shortly before the hour by referee Thomas Bramall after a challenge with Bournemouth midfielder Ryan Christie during the Reds’ 3-1 Premier League win at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
Mac Allister is now facing a three-match ban, ruling him out of the trip to Newcastle United, the home game against Aston Villa and the trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
But Klopp has questioned the red card with Liverpool now debating whether to lodge an appeal with the Football Association.
“I saw it back, I think the amount of times I’ve been asked about it shows we’re discussing it,” said the Reds boss.
“In the game, I asked Macca and he said ‘I touched him but not really’, that was all he told me.
“After the game, I saw it and if you have a list of points of what we need to give a red card, for what we need for contact, no other box is ticked in that moment.
“It’s a decision I think we can agree that if he gives a yellow card the VAR would not overturn it because the contact means there’s no clear and obvious mistake.
“I think the punishment 40 minutes with 10 men it’s already punishment enough. Let’s see, we have to talk to the authorities.”
