The Reds face wait for Andre plus latest on Mohamed Salah, Ryan Gravenberch, Benjamin Pavard and Divock Origi
The summer transfer window for Liverpool and the Premier League closes in 10 days time.
Jurgen Klopp welcomed his third summer signing in Wataru Endo on Friday. The 30-year-old faced a race against time to be handed a place in the matchday squad, but he managed to acquire international clearance and featured off the bench at Anfield.
It wasn’t the perfect scenario to hand the former VfB Stuttgart midfielder his Premier League bow, after being introduced shortly before the hour mark following Alexis Mac Allister’s, another summer acquisition, controversial red card.
Dominik Szoboszlai continued to impress with his scintillating display but for many, Liverpool’s business may not have ended. And Liverpool may not be done there. But with just over a week for clubs in the region to get their transfers over the deal and deal sheets into the respective governing bodies, here’s a round-up of what the transfer rumour mill has churned out surrounding Liverpool.
Andre
According to Globo, Fluminense have reiterated their intentions to keep ahold of midfielder Andre Trindade.
The Brazilian has been eyed by Liverpool this summer as Jurgen Klopp continues to bolster his ranks in the middle. Wataru Endo joined Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai as newcomers to Anfield this summer.
Prior to the Japanese captain’s move, Andre was among the players wanted by Liverpool as Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo were also in the hunt.
As per the report from the outlet, Liverpool signalled a fee in the region of €30m (£25m), including bonuses, but the Serie A side reaffirmed their position that Andre will not be sold until the end of the current season in South America.
It has been reported that a move was pinned on whether Fernando Diniz’s side could advance beyond the Round of 16 in the Copa Libertadores. Ultimately, they did – beating Argentina Juniors – and now Liverpool could be forced to wait until January to welcome him.
Globo claim that Liverpool’s reluctance to lodge a formal bid comes after Fluminense issued their firm stance.
Mohamed Salah
Mohamed Salah has become a key player for Liverpool since signing from AS Roma in 2017. Many Reds and Jurgen Klopp consider the Egyptian as indispensable as they look to reclaim their place among Europe’s elite.
This summer has stunned many after Saudi Arabian influence has prised a number of key talents away from the Premier League and around Europe. Liverpool haven’t avoided the shopping trolley of the Kingdom with Al Ittihad and Al Ettifaq signing Reds stalwart’s Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, respectively.
The future of Salah has been up for debate and constantly rages on, despite signing a bumper contract extension last summer. Salah’s agent has been forced to deny that an agreement has been reached over a move to the Middle East.
And Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Liverpool will not sell the forward, as he chases new records at Anfield – overtaking Steven Gerrard with his goal during Saturday’s 3-1 win over AFC Bournemouth.
He said: “From what I am told the position of Liverpool is very clear. Salah is untouchable, with Fabinho and Henderson they did something special, as they allowed the players to leave. But they don’t want Mo Salah to leave.”
Ryan Gravenberch
Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch is a name that won’t go away from the conversation surrounding Liverpool’s hunt of midfield reinforcements.
Manchester United are also reported interested in the Dutchman.
But his services have been mooted with Liverpool throughout the summer and in light of the arrival of Wataru Endo, he has emerged once more.
He was an unused substitute during their opening day win over Werder Bremen, last Friday. It was a similar story last season under Julian Nagelsmann as he failed to cement a place in the starting 11 before Thomas Tuchel succeeded the former TSG Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig boss.
Liverpool will have to pay £22m to sign the 21-year-old but face competition from their East Lancs rivals. The outlet claims that the Reds and the Red Devils are “locked in battle” over the midfielder.
Benjamin Pavard
Keeping at the Allianz Arena, Benjamin Pavard has been a name linked with a move to Liverpool this summer.
Although the Frenchman is not a midfielder, there are some fractions that claim that the Reds defence could also do with an addition as Trent Alexander-Arnold flirts with a swap to a permanent midfield position. The Liverpool defender is currently moving into a hybrid role which sees him float between full-back and the middle of the pitch.
As a result, a right-back has been mooted, while the Reds could also sign a central defender – as Pavard prefers.
He was tentatively linked with a move to Anfield, although there wasn’t anything concrete to the reports. Now, Inter Milan are reportedly, via L’Equipe, close to signing the defender.
Divock Origi
Liverpool icon Divock Origi faces an uncertain future after life at Anfield.
The Belgian adored himself to the Reds faithful during his spell on Merseyside. He has spent time with AC Milan following the end of his career on L4, but he hasn’t managed similar heights.
And all summer, he has been linked with a San Siro exit.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Sheffield United are the latest Premier League club to lodge an interest in the Belgian. He didn’t feature in their opening weekend win over Bologna on Monday and it is being reported that the end is nearing.
After interest from West Ham United earlier in the transfer window, the Blades are now looking to Origi to appease their attacking problems as they eye a player with Premier League experience to boost their hopes of remaining in the English top-flight.
