Manchester United and Liverpool have both been boosted in their quests to sign Ryan Gravenberch after the midfielder set his sights on moving to England and informed Bayern Munich he wants out.
The Dutch international, 21, did not enjoy the most fruitful of maiden seasons upon joining Bayern Munich from Ajax last summer. Gravenberch cost around €18.5m to sign, though failed to disrupt the midfield hierarchy in Bavaria.
Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka remained the favoured pairing for much of the campaign. What’s more, Konrad Laimer has since arrived from RB Leipzig as a free agent to further cast doubt on Gravenberch’s long-term future at the club.
Man Utd and Liverpool have both shown strong interest in adding the disgruntled Dutchman to their ranks.
However, as yet, Bayern’s stance has and continues to remain the player is not for sale.
Nonetheless, Fabrizio Romano confirmed both English heavyweights made fresh contact with Bayern last week to enquire as to whether the situation has changed.
Now, I understand that while manager Thomas Tuchel will push to retain Gravenberch, the player himself has informed Bayern he wants out. What’s more, his heart is set on moving to England.
I understand the Dutch midfielder has told Bayern Munich he wants to move to the Premier League.
Tuchel will resist a sale, but Gravenberch is thinking ahead to the European Championships next summer and does not believe that his chances of featuring prominently for the Netherlands are best served by being on the bench at Bayern.
Both Manchester United and Liverpool have a long-standing interest in Gravenberch and I am told both clubs have spoken with his representatives in recent weeks as they consider him as an additional midfield signing.
