Liverpool could have ‘third man shortlisted’ after Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia

Aston Villa’s Boubacar Kamara speculation, are not going away Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool manager

Liverpool were unable to sign Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia this summer – but the third of three names who would be ‘top of the list’ to replace Fabinho has yet to be determined.

According to a new report from Athletic, Aston Villa’s Boubacar Kamara was the other player flagged by Liverpool’s data service when it became clear the Brazilian midfielder was set to move to Saudi Arabia.
The Reds have recently agreed a £16.25million deal to sign Wataru Endo from Stuttgart. However, it remains to be seen if any more deals will be made by the September deadline.Jurgen Klopp admitted on Friday that his side are still looking. The boss said: “If there are the right players, we’ll take a look.” We are definitely still in the market and watching what is happening and what we can do. We are definitely trying to strengthen the team and that’s it. “Cheick Doucour of Crystal Palace, Ryan Gravenberch of Bayern Munich, Andre the talent of Fluminense and Manu Kone of Borussia Mönchengladbach continue to swirl in the rumor mill.
But what about the star of Villa Kamara? The 23-year-old France international has extensive experience having made 170 appearances for former club Marseille and was a key figure in his current side’s rise to seventh in the table last season.
The defensive midfielder is now his main position, but Kamara is versatile in this part of the field.  He also started as a centre-back as a youngster – which Klopp might like given he now sometimes has three defenders in his squad.
Kamara suffered knee and ankle problems in the 2022/23 season but returned to help Unai Emery’s side qualify for the Europa League Conference. In total, he made 24 league appearances for Villa. One of those games was against Liverpool – a 1-1 draw at Anfield followed by seven straight wins for the Reds.It was Kop legend Steven Gerrard who brought Kamara to the Premier League on a free transfer. The midfielder arrived from Marseille last summer after turning down Champions League clubs to work with the current Al-Ettifaq boss. “He’s a young player in terms of age, but he’s playing with great maturity,” former Villa boss Gerrard told the club’s website at the time. “He played a lot of games in one of the top five leagues.”He’s tough, he’s very consistent and he’s exactly the type of player we need if we’re going to take it to the next level.
He fits our style and I’m convinced that once settled in Aston fans Villa will witness a very big game. “Best player.”Don’t miss Gerrard added: “He can play as a defensive midfielder.” He can also play as a left eight or a right eight in our system. He is also capable of playing as a central defender in the middle of a defensive trio – he can also play on the right or on the left.”He’s a bit versatile but we signed him as a midfielder. As a manager, it’s always nice to know that someone can take charge of tactical information. “We saw him often at Marseille and he always performed at a high level in many roles. ” It was well documented that I went to watch the game against Nantes and he was clearly the man of the match as central midfield in a duo partnership.”He had a lot of quality in both sides of the game, both in possession and in possession. We couldn’t wait to finalize the signing. This only happened recently because he wanted to be very respectful towards Marseille, which is understandable”.
Having recently received news of his contract is a big step for Aston Villa.”Emery was also full of praise earlier this year when the manager told Sky Sports: “[Kamara] has great potential. Very big potential. He plays well and is very focused on improving his game, improving his skills on and off the ball. It has evolved, in France and here. Now it’s my responsibility to develop it even more than it has so far.”Kamara’s contract at Villa runs until 2027 – and it could be difficult for anyone to let him go this summer, especially given the current prices of defensive midfielders and at this late stage. But the speculations will certainly not go away.
French outlet Foot Mercato recently said Kamara is “very popular in Liverpool”, and their report added that it would be a but not impossible mission” to bring him to Anfield.
