Fluminense and Liverpool are negotiating for 22-year-old midfielder Andre Trindade.
Many Liverpool supporters may be captivated to events taking place more than 6,000 kilometres from Anfield in the early hours of Friday.
When Fluminense plays Paraguayan team Olimpia in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores quarterfinal, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, may be of interest to Reds supporters. The second leg is scheduled to be played in the wee hours of September 1, the day of the transfer deadline.
A victory for Fluminense will undoubtedly put a stop to Liverpool’s pursuit of midfielder Andre in late August, but an exit for the Brazilians might still reopen the door for talks between the two clubs as Jurgen Klopp attempts to close a difficult transfer window on a high note.
Andre has been named as a target, and it’s believed that the Reds first made contact with Fluminense at the start of August. This year, the 22-year-old has made a strong enough impression to earn a spot on the international stage. Andre was a member of the Brazil team that lost to Senegal 4-2 in June.
By a number of indicators, he appears ready to move on to European football, but what transpires over the next few days may have a major impact on where and when that switch is ultimately completed.
The Brazilian club Flu is extremely reluctant to lose their international midfielder while they still have a chance to win the Libertadores, which is the South American version of the Champions League. He is seen as an essential member of head coach Fernando Deniz’s Flu team.
Of course he wants to play outside of Brazil and pursue financial independence—everyone does. We nonetheless informed the athletes’ representatives that we would not even consider their suggestions. We are unwilling to listen. And with that, I express my gratitude for the athlete’s and the representatives’ devoted service in providing the club’s responses whenever they were contacted.
Those remarks, however, came before Liverpool initiated communication, and it was interesting to note that recent rumours from Brazil claimed renowned’super agent’ Jorge Mendes had been given instructions to become involved in an effort to open the door for Andre to make a lucrative move to Europe.
