Liverpool winger Mateusz Musialowski has refused a return to Poland in favor of an Austrian club as he is set to leave Anfield.
Musialowski, 19, is long set to leave Liverpool this summer after struggling to get into first-team plans under Jurgen Klopp.
The versatile striker has started both matches for the U21 side so far and it will be some time before transfer talks are settled.
This comes despite interest from Lech Poznan, Gornik Zabrze, Widzew Lodz and LKS Lodz in his home country of Poland and speculation of a loan or purchase credit.
However, according to journalist Musialowski has now turned down the chance to return to the country. Instead, the teenager is set to join TSV Hartberg, who play in the Austrian Bundesliga, with the priority now being to ‘settle his contract issue’.
No deal has yet been agreed with Liverpool, but it has previously been reported that the club will not stand in the way of Musialowski should he receive an acceptable offer. The player recently changed agents in anticipation of a summer move as there are few opportunities on the senior side on Merseyside. Musialowski’s only first-team appearance so far was the 3-0 friendly loss to Strasbourg at the end of pre-season last summer.
He too hasn’t been called up to senior training very often in recent years, with players like Ben Doak, Bobby Clark, Kaide Gordon, Melkamu Frauendorf and Lewis Koumas being favored.
Trent Kone-Doherty, the 17-year-old Irish winger, is the youngest player in Klopp’s squad, ahead of Musialowski. The Poland Under-21 international joined Liverpool FC from SMS Lodz in 2020, but while he has attracted attention with his dribbling and goalkeeping skills, there have been reservations about his work off the ball.
