Morton returned to Liverpool training after four months out injured on Tuesday and his next move is now under consideration.
Morton progressed last time out on loan with Blackburn, making 46 appearances for the Championship club before a broken foot ended his season prematurely.
The midfielder returned to the AXA academy for treatment before taking his post-season leave and then returned to Merseyside for training.
However, even though Morton was present at the start of pre-season, the 20-year-old did not take part in the first-team trips to Germany and Singapore. But this week he returned to long-awaited training, attending a training session on Tuesday as Liverpool began preparations for the Newcastle game. Morton was part of a 31-man squad toiling away in sunny Merseyside, with most of the players who started in the 3-1 win over Bournemouth having a lighter workload to handle.
He warmed up with his teammates as Jurgen Klopp and his team looked on and was one of the players pictured involved in a small group practice with the ball. It is likely that the Liverpool medical team are still monitoring the increased intensity of the youngster whose free time will require a cautious approach to recovery.
However, following his return, there appear to be plans to loan out Morton again this season.
Earlier this month, journalist Darren Witcoop reported that the midfielder was attracting Championship interest, while Neil Jones added that overseas clubs were also watching. Morton was at one point expected to reinforce Klopp’s first place at Liverpool this season, but that appears to have changed.
With Liverpool still hoping to sign a new midfielder before the end of the transfer window, the battle for places would not give the academy graduates enough time to develop.
