Billy Hogan, the chief executive of Liverpool, has spoken out against the ‘extremely unfortunate’ delays in the Anfield Road end’s full opening.
When it was revealed that the contractor Buckingham Group had submitted a notice to appoint administrators, work to finish the top deck of the stand was suspended last week.
The Reds’ first home game against Bournemouth was played with that area of the stadium completely closed as a result, drawing fewer than 50,000 spectators.
An update on the situation was given by Hogan, who stated: “Effectively major construction ceased on the site on Thursday morning after the news, so obviously it effects all of our preparations.
“Obviously, timing is quite flexible right now; there is a lot of ambiguity about where we are, but that will become clearer with time.
It’s crucial that we avoid creating erroneous expectations. Providing an update was something we wanted to make sure of.
We previously stated that we would be working through a gradual opening, and that strategy still stands, obviously.
“We will continue to share updates as we get them, and in the upcoming weeks, we will be able to be more specific about the timelines for finishing the project.
Just to be clear, based on the news we received on Thursday, we are currently in a bit of a holding pattern that needs to be resolved before we can start to take the next steps.
