Liverpool completes signings numbers four and fiveKlopp also finalized a deal for another highly regarded midfielder from Leicester.
Liverpool can no longer stockpile the top European talent for their academy due to the shifting transfer landscape imposed by Brexit, forcing them to seek much closer to home. As a result, we disclosed last month that 16-year-old Foxes prospect Nyoni had caught the Merseysiders’ attention.
The midfielder, who holds dual citizenship with England and Zimbabwe, was identified by Reds scouts as one of the game’s finest young talents, and negotiations to sign him have been ongoing for the past few weeks.
Nyoni has played for England at the U16 level and was a fixture for Leicester’s U18 team last season, where he scored twice and added an assist.
The Reds have now completed his signing, and the agreement will become effective on Wednesday.
Nyoni, who has been a player for Leicester since he was six years old, will work with their academy system at Kirkby and aims to enhance his skills there.
“I am grateful to all the players and staff at the club who have helped me develop over the past 10 years and I wish nothing but success to everyone at the club,” Nyoni wrote in a post on Instagram after announcing his departure from Leicester.
Liverpool is still looking for starting midfielders.
Nyoni is not likely to be prepared for Jurgen Klopp’s first team any time soon. Trent Alexander-Arnold is the ideal illustration of the Reds manager’s desire to advance his brightest young players when and if they are prepared.
Now, Klopp will be hoping Nyoni has the same kind of success as previous recent young arrivals. Indeed, recent instances of Liverpool’s new hiring technique include Ben Doak, who joined from Celtic, and Bobby Clark, who joined from Newcastle. And now that both players have made an impression during preseason, Liverpool is hoping Nyoni will be the next prospect to stand out and demonstrate first-team promise in the years to come.
