On this date in 2013, Liverpool acquired Valencia’s Aly Cissokho on loan
Prior to Andy Robertson being Liverpool’s star left-back, the team struggled to find a player who could perform well in that position on a regular basis.
Brendan Rodgers took action to remedy the problem in the summer of 2013 by authorizing a loan agreement for a player who was sought after by other teams around Europe. Liverpool finalized the acquisition of Aly Cissokho from Valencia on this day ten years ago.
After only a year in the Liverpool dugout, Rodgers was eager to make his mark on his team with a significant transfer window. Although Cissokho wasn’t a signing meant to grab attention, it was intended to be a wise choice for little to no expenditure.
Cissokho publicly discussed relocating to Merseyside even before the agreement was finalized. However, the left back acknowledged that he was unsure whether a transfer would occur.
I received an offer from Liverpool, and it is true that we have come to an agreement, I stated to the French newspaper Le 10 Sport in August 2013. “The clubs must now come to an agreement. I anticipate finding out more later this week. If nothing occurs this week, I most likely won’t be traveling to Liverpool.
The issue is with the transfer’s terms. Valencia wants to sell the player right now, while Liverpool prefer a loan agreement with a buy option. It’s also not a problem if the transfer doesn’t happen. I’m in good health in Valencia.
