Anfield Road End contractors FSG Buckingham Group and Liverpool have submitted a notice of intent to appoint administrators.
Unknown is exactly when Liverpool’s Anfield stadium, which has a 61,000-person capacity, will be fully functioning.
The main contractors for the £80 million Anfield Road End renovation, the Buckingham Group, filed a notice to appoint administrators last week after experiencing severe cash flow issues that forced them to cease operations with immediate effect, dealing a significant blow to the Reds.
The stand’s construction has come to an end, but when it is finished, it will add another 7,000 seats to Anfield and help the Reds surpass the £100 million mark in matchday revenues annually, keeping up with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, who currently hold that record; Arsenal will soon join them.
One possible outcome is that investment or a takeover occurs and a rescue package can be agreed upon to take the business out of administration and allow it to continue operating. Buckingham Group, who were also working on Birmingham City and Northampton Town’s stadiums at the time they announced their intention to appoint administrators, are buying themselves time to see whether certain parts of the business and jobs can be saved through restructuring.
