Dejan Lovren deleted his tweet after speaking out over Salah’s future.
Dejan Lovren, a former Liverpool defender, has once again criticized speculation that Mohamed Salah would leave the club this summer.
The Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad, according to reports on Thursday afternoon, are showing increasing interest in Salah, 31, and plan to sign the Egyptian as their next star player.
Jurgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool
Andrea Pirlo was reportedly discreetly signed by Liverpool.
While the two were teammates at Anfield for three seasons, Lovren, who grew close to Salah during that time, called the accusations “fake news” in a since-deleted tweet.
In response to a post from an account called Transfer News Live that claimed Karim Benzema was “vital” to persuading Salah to join the Saudi club, the former Reds defender said: “There are so many fake news stories in this world, it’s absurd.
“I should create a new page called “Here we go, but honestly, trust me,” “I should do that.”
Earlier today, Lovren responded to a different tweet from the same user that said Salah wanted to leave Liverpool and would receive a higher salary elsewhere.
Two weeks ago, Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, also rubbished mutterings that the forward could leave Anfield this summer, tweeting: “If we considered leaving LFC this year, we wouldn’t have renewed the contract last summer. Mohamed remains committed to LFC.” Salah’s current deal, which saw him become the highest-paid player in Liverpool history when he signed last summer, expires in July 2025.
