When Liverpool visits Newcastle United this weekend, they’ll try to build on a solid start to their Premier League campaign.
The Reds are back on the road on Sunday afternoon when they go up to St James’ Park after picking up four points from trips to Chelsea and Bournemouth.
But before that game, Liverpool has had a busy week off the field as shocking rumors about the future of none other than Mohamed Salah have surfaced ahead of next Friday’s deadline for transfers.
Paul Gorst, a journalist for the ECHO, provides the most recent information in his Notebook.
Liverpool is reluctant to consider Salah rumors
When the expected first question was asked during Jurgen Klopp’s Friday news conference, his wry smirk transformed into a big grin.
Following the shocking report that Al-Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League are preparing an all-out charm assault for the Egyptian before their transfer window closes next month, Mohamed Salah became the topic of debate.
With 138 goals since joining from Roma in June 2017, a player who is currently Liverpool’s most scorer in the Premier League era, Liverpool has zero intention of trading him.
According to reports, Salah is being given terms in Saudi Arabia that would make him the highest-paid player in the world, but although there isThe 31-year-old has been the subject of much clamor and speculative commentary from the Middle East, but the Reds have not yet received any official offer and would not welcome one.
Salah is not for sale, as was made very plain in the vaguest of terms. The ‘hands-off’ message has been clear. In his press interviews, Klopp made clear this, saying: “It’s challenging to talk about media stories because there isn’t anything to talk about from our point of view. Mo Salah plays for Liverpool. Nothing is present. If something existed, the response would be “no” (he is not for sale).
“I consider an issue when I have one, but at the moment there is none. If I have to consider anything since I don’t know when it will happenBut it would be no if something did come. Mo has a complete dedication to the Liverpool Football Club.
No news is good news for Liverpool, who have made it clear in private that they would do whatever it took to keep Salah on the Merseyside. The No. 11 is the highest-paid player at Anfield and still has a two-year contract, so there is no rush to trade him. Furthermore, they have no evidence that Salah will welcome the Ittihad proposal.
After spending the summer touring Germany and Singapore alongside Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad, two young aspirants returned to reality on Friday at the AXA Training Center.
