Harvey Elliott has never shied away from what he wants to accomplish with Liverpool, including wearing the captain’s armband, despite the fact that he acknowledges “there’s a long way to go.”
The 20-year-old joined the team in 2019 and made 46 appearances last season, the first 41 of which were consecutively, as he enjoyed his best campaign donning a Liverpool jersey.
Elliott, like many of Liverpool’s young players, exudes confidence, which encourages him to be extremely ambitious but unentitled.
Elliott, a lifetime Red, has aspirations of donning the captain’s armband, but he is well aware of the effort and road required to eventually have the chance.
“I’d love to be the future captain of Liverpool, but there’s a position of future Liverpool captain, I still have a long way to go and a lot of studying to do, he told TNT Sports’ The Big Interview.
Elliott stated his own goals as, “One thing I want to do is go on the field each and every game and just run my absolute heart off and give everything for the badge, everything for the club, the team, and the fans.”
“I believe that is the very minimum that a Liverpool player can accomplish. Anything less than that is considered to be unsatisfactory, and I would agree with that assessment of myself.
I simply want to go out there and give it my best; if I can’t walk when I leave the field, so be it.
As I previously stated, I would want to lead Liverpool as captain one day, but Trent and Virgil currently hold that position.
“Those two are incredible leaders, and they’ve both been through a lot with this squad and each other.
There is still a long way to go, but hopefully one day it will be possible.
Elliott is correct when he says that he still has “a long way to go” before he can consider himself for a position, but keep in mind that he is still only 20.
It is obvious how much he values the club, and even though some people may disagree with his choice of career path, Elliott’s drive should be applauded.
