The ECHO gets the dirt on every member of the front five at Anfield from Liverpool’s all-time leading scorer.
The “world class” striker options available to Liverpool, according to Ian Rush, are the best ones Jurgen Klopp has had to deal with in his eight years as manager.
Because of Anfield’s strength in depth, the legendary former No. 9 believes that the players at Klopp’s disposal make him the envy of the Premier League.
Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, and Diogo Jota have combined to score 22 of Liverpool’s past 29 Premier League goals since they were all healthy and available to Klopp at the same time in April. The star-studded frontline is expected to continue its hot streak.
While Rush reserved a special word for 17-year-old Ben Doak, who drew the attention of the club’s preseason tours in Germany and Singapore, Klopp’s frontline is composed of five players with a wide range of skills.
Nobody is more suited than the famous Rush to offer his opinion on the current crop of goal scorers at Anfield, having scored 346 goals in a spectacular and goal-filled career with the Reds that covered two terms.
Here, Rush discusses in-depth with ECHO what he believes each member of Klopp’s hitting department can provide this season.
“In my opinion, the alternatives for striking are as robust as ever. Additionally, while discussing the front five, you may also bring up Ben Doak because I was on the preseason trip. Despite his youth, he definitely won my admiration during the preseason trip.
Therefore, in terms of strength in depth, I don’t believe Jurgen has ever had better choices. What needs to be done now is to fit them in. Any one of those five, and I include Manchester City in that, would most likely join any team, I’m confident of that. It must be annoying for them to be on the sidelines when you mention them all.
“It involves traveling to space while nobody is present. It takes time to do that, and you can see it happening with these guys now as they are beginning to grasp it slowly but surely. Since we now have five players instead of just three, the opposition is unsure of who to mark, thus finding the appropriate lineup is crucial.
“I couldn’t choose a top pick among them all, so I wouldn’t want to be the manager. I believe that Jurgen will evaluate the opposition before each game and make a decision. He can play any of these five, and I doubt they’ll all play simultaneously, but he’ll choose the best combinations for each game based on
