Stephen Killen provides a match report as Liverpool’s under-18 team defeats Derby County 2-0.
Liverpool’s under-18 team defeated Derby County at the AXA Training Center by a score of 2-0 to get their winning streak back on track.
Today’s first-half goals from Jayden Danns and Kareem Ahmed were sufficient for them to secure their second victory of the year.
The youthful Reds interim captain only needed six minutes to score his fourth goal of the year. Danns responded to Trent Kone-Doherty’s cross with a volley, hitting the post at first, but the 17-year-old recovered to nudge in on the rebound.
The first half saw Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s team play with precision, and they added a second when Ahmed looped past Jack Thompson in the Rams goal. Together with Francis Gyimah, Kieran Morrison was rewarded for his excellent job when the Egyptian doubled. The red lead.
Liverpool’s journey wasn’t without its challenges, though. On his first competitive start for the U18s, Kornel Miscuir produced four key saves to maintain his clean sheet in the first half.
Prior to Liverpool scoring their second goal, the young Pole engaged in a running duel with Derby’s number nine, Lennon Wheeldon, who was denied three times before Farren Simons.
On his U18s debut, Miscuir was impressive, but he nearly lost his cool after a catch narrowly missed the goal.
Late in the game, Derby substitute Justin Oguntolu attempted to cut the lead in half but curled wide. For the remainder of the game, Liverpool went into cruise control and won easily.
The Reds gained a lot of advantages as they rose to second place in the standings. Trey Nyoni and Amara Nallo have joined Bridge-Wilkinson after leaving West Ham and Leicester City, respectively. The two newcomers didn’t play, but they did watch as they overcame their previous defeat to Leeds United.
On Saturday, September 16 (kickoff at 11 a.m.), Liverpool U18s will play Blackburn Rovers in the U18s Premier League North.
Miscuir; Pitt; Furnell-Gill; Enahoro-Marcus (Airobama); Gyimah (Martin); Trueman (Laffey), Pennington; Morrison; Ahmed; Kone-Doherty (4-2-3-1) are the members of the Liverpool U18 team.
