How Liverpool beat off a number of Premier League rivals to score a £1.5 million transfer steal

Lee Clark discusses Bobby’s signing with Liverpool with Keifer MacDonald of the ECHO, as well as the exciting next steps that could be taken as the Anfield dream comes true.

When Liverpool and Newcastle United lock horns on Sunday afternoon, there’ll be no love lost from either side.

Indeed, after last season’s seemingly never-ending back-and-forth between both camps, the Reds’ hopes of laying down an early marker in the race for Champions League redemption will be soundtracked by a ferocious St James’ Park.
Lee Clark, a former Magpies midfielder who was regarded as one of the best in the black and white shirt during the Premier League era, will be present in the North East on Sunday afternoon. Though as he and the rest of the Clark family gear up for a historic occasion, his allegiances to his boyhood club will become complicated this weekend.

Bobby Clark, Lee’s son, who took the difficult decision to terminate his seven-year tenure with Newcastle’s academy in the summer of 2021, is expected to be a part of Liverpool’s traveling squad. Now, the 18-year-old may have a Premier League start on Sunday in a place where he is comfortable.

Bobby scored his first goal for Liverpool during the 4-0 hammering of Leicester City at the Singapore National Stadium, giving him a preseason breakthrough this summer in the Far East. The winger-turned-midfielder has been on the football scene for the majority of his junior years, despite the fact that some fans may have only recently noticed him.

Bobby trained at Birmingham City’s Youth Development Center while his father served as first-team manager at St Andrew’s from 2012 to 2014. After the family moved back to the area, Bobby later visited all three of the top North East clubs, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, and Newcastle, and ultimately decided to spend his immediate years with the Magpies.

The midfielder was the target of a charmed offensive approach from some of the division’s top teams in the summer of 2021 after concluding that a move away from Newcastle would serve him best in his drive to break through in the Premier League. However, Liverpool would ultimately prevail in the battle for his contract thanks to Terry McDermott, a Reds icon.
