Jamie Carragher is aware of what every Liverpool supporter wants this week: “LCB & midfielder please”!
With the transfer window shutting on Friday (11pm), the Liverpool veteran has not been shy about urging the club to make additional additions this summer.
Liverpool demonstrated that they certainly have the skills and competitiveness necessary to compete by heroically coming from behind to defeat Newcastle on Sunday, but Carragher is correct that two additions in two very specific areas are necessary.
And possibly with two additions—a left-sided center-back and an additional midfielder—Jurgen Klopp’s team might once again challenge Man City for the championship.
According to Carragher on Sky Sports, “Liverpool have been Manchester City’s biggest rival for the last four or five years, and Arsenal came to the fore last season.”
But why can’t Liverpool play like that this year?
Liverpool needs to go all-out this week in the transfer market to add another defender and midfielder since their current lineup is unable to compete with Manchester City.
“That has to happen because Liverpool could still be Manchester City’s strongest rival.
They have had a respectable start to the season, but when you have a goalkeeper of Alisson’s caliber, he may be the best in the world.
“Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah are two players who aren’t towards the end of their careers but are at the point where Liverpool needs to achieve something significant again within the next year or two.
Go all out in the last week of the transfer window to assemble a team capable of competing with Manchester City.
It’s annoying that Liverpool still needs a left-sided center back and a midfielder four days before the transfer season closes, just as they have since the window opened 75 days ago.
As of Monday morning, there were no particularly strong connections to either player. However, as we saw with Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo, things can change quickly, and Liverpool does strive to do its transactions in secret.
