Ben Doak has been urged by Scotland boss Steve Clarke to keep doing well at Liverpool so that he can soon earn a senior international cap.
The 17-year-old, who advanced quickly through the system and into Jurgen Klopp’s attention, had a remarkable debut season for the club last season.
After a successful preseason, Doak has been a regular in first-team training at the AXA Training Centre and has been selected for all three matchday squads this year.
The teenager generated a lot of enthusiasm at the club and international levels when he came off the bench at Chelsea to make his six career appearances for the team.
Doak has just played for Scotland’s under-21 team, but Clarke has long been aware of him and has praised the prospect as a “big part” of the nation’s future.
A senior call-up is imminent, but Doak must wait since, according to Clarke, “his turn won’t be too far away” if he keeps doing “what he is doing at his club.”
When unveiling his 25-man team, Clarke said, “Anybody who is doing well for their club, especially at a club like Liverpool, coming off the bench in the English Premier League, they are always going to be near.
Anybody who is performing well for their team, particularly at a team like Liverpool, playing off the bench in the English Premier League, they are always going to be close, Clarke stated while unveiling his 25-man roster.
“I just think that this particular time Elliot [Anderson] was the ideal person to bring in.
“Ben knows that we are keeping an eye on him and that he is a key player in the future, but he must keep up the good work he is doing at his club and keep performing well.
If he achieves that, I’m confident his turn won’t be far off.
They will serve as motivation for Doak, whose main possibilities at Liverpool are anticipated to come in the Europa League and and national cup tournaments this year.
In the meantime, Andy Robertson, a fellow Scot at Anfield, will captain his nation in their September international matches against England (Sept. 12) and Cyprus (Sept. 8).
