With his two goals against Newcastle, Darwin Nunez has renewed calls for a starting berth with Liverpool, and Marcelo Bielsa’s discussions have aided in this.
Nunez turned the tide for Liverpool with 10 men at St. James’ Park in a 13-minute cameo, scoring twice to secure an improbable 2-1 victory.
Since he has entered every game this season as a replacement thus far, many are now calling for him to start the upcoming match at home against Aston Villa due to his explosive effect.
Nunez is obviously still developing, as Jurgen Klopp noted after the victory over Newcastle that the team’s need for “stability” prevented Nunez from starting.
However, the attacker is making efforts to raise his level of play, including Zoom talks with the late Uruguayan manager Bielsa.
He believes several things could be improved. Nunez stated, “He corrects me,” to 100% Deportes.
For instance, he instructs not to sprint in front of the second center defender but rather to run behind [him] on a play where the entire [opposing] team is behind.
The middle defender so misses his mark.
Darwin Nez celebrates after scoring Liverpool’s second goal during their FA Premier League match against Newcastle United FC at St. James’ Park. Liverpool triumphed 2-1.
Both of the goals against Newcastle might be attributed to that run, which took advantage of both Sven Botman and his replacement Dan Burn to move into a shooting position.
As described by Neil Jones in a July post for This Is Anfield, he worked relentlessly on it at Liverpool’s AXA Training Center.
Nunez stated, “The truth is that we had a very excellent conversation with him.
“Many people have already described him to me, and I believed he was a serious, good guy.
Nunez, 24, is fully aware of the competition for spots, but it is yet unclear whether he will be considered for the starting lineup when Villa comes to town on Sunday.
“As you can see, there’s Cody, Luis, Salah, and Jota. They are all elite athletes, he said.
I play in a large club where there will be healthy competition among the players. Because of this, we are in Liverpool.
“I’m now playing on a team with players who are on the same level as me,” the athlete said.
Nunez will join the Uruguayan national team for the World Cup qualifying matches against Chile and Ecuador following the match with Villa.
He expects to bring the No. 9 shirt that Luis Suarez once wore when he meets Bielsa there for the first time in person.
