To many people’s dismay, a popular picture of Jurgen Klopp berating Newcastle’s coaching staff during Sunday’s 2-1 victory is a hoax.
Despite being reduced to 10 men early on, the Reds managed to win all three points at Newcastle thanks to a late Darwin Nunez-inspired comeback.
Recently, there has been a lot of hostility between the two coaches, with one Newcastle coach hurling a bottle at his Liverpool teammates after Fabio Carvalho’s thrilling last-second victory a year ago.
This time, emotions increased as the hosts’ assistant boss Jason Tindall was seen shooing Klopp away as his team was leading.
To the joy of Liverpool supporters, it resulted in a picture of Klopp seemingly retaliating with a similar gesture after Nunez put the Reds in lead.
Many enjoyed the cheeky nature of it all, however it was later discovered that the photo had been digitally altered.
The image that instantly went viral after the game was created by graphic designer LewVisualss.
His effort deceived more than just fans; it also misled members of the British press into thinking the cut was real.
Before it was later changed, Jamie Carragher posted the image to his own Instagram account and it even hit the Telegraph’s back page on Monday.
Over 500,000 people viewed the initial LewVisualss post, and millions more saw it once it was shared on other platforms.
Fans were happy to see Klopp come out on top in what was a heated match at St. James’ Park, but the true image was just of the German grinning while staring down the touchline.
It was Klopp’s fifth victory over Newcastle in a row and his 11th straight victory over Eddie Howe, including his time at Bournemouth.
When the teams rematch at Anfield in late December, Liverpool will be trying to carry on that trend. The game is expected to be an exciting one.
