Fabio Carvalho has played just 18 minutes in three games for RB Leipzig, sitting out their most recent match entirely.
Dominik Szoboszlai’s departure to Leipzig for a season-long loan prompted Carvalho’s arrival, and he was anticipated to replace him.
But the Portuguese have had a sluggish start, with Dani Olmo and another temporary addition, Xavi Simons, favored in the two attacking midfield positions.
In the 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the DFL-Supercup and the 3-2 loss to Bayer Leverkusen to open the Bundesliga season, manager Marco Rose used Carvalho off the bench.
But in Friday’s 5-1 rout of Stuttgart, the 20-year-old was completely ignored.
Five goals were scored by Leipzig between the 51st and 76th minutes to rally from a 1-0 deficit against Wataru Endo’s former team.
However, Rose only went to his bench after leading 5-1, replacing Carvalho with Emil Forsberg, Timo Werner, Benjamin Sesko, Christoph Baumgartner, and Lukas Klostermann.
The young midfielder was just not seen as a credible alternative, therefore there was little sense of risk in moving Carvalho on.
Sepp van den Berg made his complete Bundesliga debut for Mainz, starting in a challenging 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Van den Berg had previously replaced other players against SV Elversberg and Union Berlin, but Sunday was the first time he played after missing the U21 Euros due to injury.
Over the course of the weekend, six further Liverpool loanees participated in play, with Harvey Davies, Owen Beck, Adam Lewis, and Luke Hewitson all playing the full 90 minutes.
Davies makes his sixth straight start for Crewe With Bradford winning 1-0, Alexandra once more failed to keep a clean sheet, bringing his total of goals allowed this season to 10.
Beck performed admirably in Dundee’s 1-0 triumph against Hearts, and Lewis did the same in Newport County’s 3-1 victory over Sutton United.
Hewitson was unable to build on his earlier in the week heroics for Stalybridge Celtic since his team fell to Avro FC 3-2.
Dominic Corness made a brief appearance in Yverdon-Sport’s 4-1 victory over Servette, while Anderson Arroyo played 63 minutes in Andorra FC’s 3-0 loss to Amorebieta.
While Rhys Williams is still sidelined with an injury for Aberdeen and Calvin Ramsay is also out for Preston, James Balagizi and Jakub Ojrzynski were both omitted from the lineup.
