Jurgen Klopp has requested supporters to refrain from chanting his name again this weekend after becoming irate when it happened during the victory over Bournemouth.
The manager has made it clear on numerous occasions that he prefers that attention during games be given to those who are on the field.
Even though there were still about 15 minutes left in the first home game of 2023–24, the 3–1 victory, fans continued to express their gratitude for the management.
In advance of Sunday’s match against Aston Villa, Klopp has issued “a polite request” to fans not to sing the song at Anfield while also expressing his “gratitude” for the backing of The Kop.
In the programme notes for his Aston Villa game, Klopp emphasized, “The first thing I have to say about it is I absolutely love [the chant].”
“I mention this because I do not want there to be any miscommunication. The song’s existence is wonderful. It’s sung, which I adore. Most of all, That the fans I adore want to chant it when they visit Anfield makes me feel humbled. I get chills just thinking about it.
“The only exception I make is that I would love it if it became a song for after matches are over, because it is much easier and better to do it in these notes than it is in the heat of a game.
“During games, I want the players to receive all the support. They need to know they have your support, and I want you to encourage them and keep them on their toes.
It’s not my place to tell you which song to sing when, so this is simply a nice request.
The final line is noteworthy since some people said that fans have the right to criticize players after his antics on the touchline against Bournemouth.
