Kaide Gordon makes his first appearance in 19 months and promises “many more to come”
After a lengthy and difficult injury, Kaide Gordon played his first game for Liverpool in 19 months, and the winger promised “many more to come.”
September 3, 2023, Liverpool U21s 1-4 Middlesbrough U21s, Premier League 2, AXA Training Center
Fletcher, Finch, Simpson, Kavanagh, and Hill all scored goals in the first half.
Gordon has been sidelined ever since he split a weekend between the first team and the under-21s in February 2022.
The young player played the entire 90 minutes in the next day’s 3-0 loss to Leeds U21s after being an inactive substitute in the FA Cup victory over Cardiff by a score of 3-1.
After that, however, he was relegated to the treatment area, and a number of setbacks were ultimately explained by adolescent musculoskeletal problems, also known as growing pains, in his pelvis.
Gordon finally made his comeback to the matchday squad when the young Reds met Middlesbrough on Saturday after gaining his fitness over the summer with the U21s.
The now-18-year-old was named to the bench by manager Barry Lewtas and entered the game with the visitors leading 3-0 in the final 15 minutes.
After returning, Gordon ended up playing more than 25 minutes, with almost 10 minutes of stoppage time as Calum Kavanagh scored Middlesbrough’s fourth goal and Tom Hill added a late comeback.
Youngster In the tenth minute of extra time, Josh Davidson, another substitute, received a red card for a similar offense to Gordon’s.
Despite the fact that Liverpool ultimately suffered a crushing 4-1 loss, the second-youngest goal scorer in club history should be remembered for this historic moment.
After being away for 19 months, Gordon remarked on Instagram, “It felt so nice to be back out there with the lads.
There will be a lot more.
Three months and four days after turning 17, Gordon scored his first goal for Jurgen Klopp’s senior team.
He is about a month away from turning 19 at this point, and with the majority of two years off the field, it goes without saying that he has missed a lot of football.
Though Gordon’s return for the U21s was a historic event, he will now want to increase his playing time over the following months.
Gordon traveled for preseason in Dubai during the World Cup and Austria last summer, and this summer, he was a member of the original team to report for medical tests at the AXA Training Center.
Although Ben Doak, who also plays on the right side, has gained popularity, Gordon still has a clear path ahead of him despite the increased competition.
