Dominik Szoboszlai admits that the first LFC goal was the result of a workout.
Dominik Szoboszlai’s first goal for Liverpool won’t be easily topped, since the Hungarian said he has already attempted to score it in practice.
The Reds took the lead against Aston Villa after only three minutes thanks to a breathtaking effort from Szoboszlai.
The No. 8 touched it down and produced the finest of blows with his left foot as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner curved through the mass of men and to the brink of the box.
Szoboszlai expressed his joy at finally carrying out the play on the club’s official website as the ball arrowed into the top corner and Liverpool was on their way to a 3-0 victory.
“I’m really happy to score my first goal at Anfield. I think I couldn’t even wish [for] better,” he said.
“To be honest, I said it before, we practised sometimes in the training and I think two weeks ago I had two situations after each other [and] I shot the ball 50 metres over the goal.
“Today I was concentrating even more to hit the ball good and to hit the goal. It worked.”
It came two weeks after Jurgen Klopp himself said: “These kind of finishing, shooting skills, we didn’t see yet properly, but we’ll probably see that more often in the future.”
Szoboszlai, who joined as a 22-year-old from RB Leipzig, has quickly integrated into the team, which speaks to both his talent and attitude.
The Hungarian successfully regained possession seven times, according to FotMob, with Joe Gomez being the only outfielder to do so on Sunday (eight).
He is consistently one of the hardest-working players on the field, and when you combine that with his skill with the ball, you have an asset that is priceless.
Szoboszlai appears to be finally taking up the mantle of its previous owner, Steven Gerrard, after receiving the No. 8 from Naby Keita.
Even though it’s still early, the £60 million signing couldn’t have started any better.
