In Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday,
Trent Alexander-Arnold stood out among the others, although many others also performed admirably.
Against a dangerous Aston Villa team, the Reds played virtually flawlessly, giving the home crowd some outstanding football to enjoy.
Prior to Matty Cash’s own goal making it 2-0, Dominik Szoboszlai put Liverpool ahead with a left-footed drive into the far corner.
Then, in the second half, Mohamed Salah created headlines on the field with a goal in front of the Kop as Jurgen Klopp’s team cruised to an excellent three points.
Alexander-Arnold (8.4), who led his boyhood team and had the highest overall rating at Anfield, had a proud day.
The 24-year-old displayed a passing masterclass for Liverpool, excelling in his pivotal role and mostly in charge of the action. I hope he didn’t get hurt too badly.
Harry McMullen of TIA was quite impressed with the Englishman’s performance and noted that he “played some gorgeous progressive passes.”
Szoboszlai (8.2), a Hungarian who scored his first Liverpool goal in style and roared the entire match, came in second.
The Reds’ new No. 8 has been described as a “energetic presence throughout” by Tom Maston of Goal, who noted that he is developing into a fantastic addition.
Next in line was Salah (7.9), who scored and caused problems for Villa’s defense, setting up Darwin Nunez for some significant opportunities.
Doyle said that the Uruguayan and Egyptian King “combined well”; let’s hope they remain Reds players for a very long time!
Curtis Jones (6.6), who had the lowest rating of the day, received the wooden spoon, although McMullen nevertheless praised him for not “putting a foot wrong on his return.”
Liverpool won’t play again until their trip to Wolves on September 16 at 12.30pm because of the first dreaded international break of the year.
