Nat Phillips will have to wait until later in the season to make his debut, but a fellow loanee got the season started with an assist last weekend.
Phillips signed a four-month loan agreement with Celtic last week that will be evaluated by Liverpool in January.
On Sunday, his new team faced fierce rivals Rangers, but despite being available, Brendan Rodgers did not select Phillips to play.
The 26-year-old was left out of the matchday squad, as the former Reds manager stated, but it was “always the plan” for him to sit out until after the international break.
“The plan was always this. This was the game he was never going to be able to make going into it, said Rodgers.
We need to take care of him because we’ve spoken with the Liverpool medical staff. But ideally he will be available after the international break.
In another game, Fabio Carvalho did not play as RB Leipzig defeated Union Berlin 3-0 on the road.
The 20-year-old, who joined RB Leipzig on loan earlier this summer, has played just six minutes of Bundesliga football so far this season.
Owen Beck had a more successful weekend as he recorded his first assist for Dundee during their 2-2 draw at St. Johnstone.
However, his team did give up a two-goal advantage when a late brace from Max Kucheriavyi gave the home team a point.
Werder Bremen defeated Mainz 4-0, with Sepp van den Berg playing the whole 90 minutes in place of the injured Naby Keita, who is still recovering from an abductor muscle rupture.
Adam Lewis, Luke Hewitson, and Harvey Davies all participated throughout their weekend games.
James Balagizi, Dominic Corness, and Anderson Arroyo were only required to make cameo appearances.
After making their summer moves, Billy Koumetio, James Norris, Luca Stephenson, and Jakub Ojrzynski were all forced to observe from the sidelines.
Calvin Ramsay and Rhys Williams were also sidelined because they needed to attend to their individual injuries.
Tyler Morton couldn’t play for Hull because he switched his deadline day and wasn’t registered in time.
