Despite some good news regarding the stadium expansion, Tuesday’s headlines were for the wrong reasons.
Henderson’s interview draws more ire
After spending 12 years at Anfield, Jordan Henderson recently discussed his decision to leave for the Saudi Pro League for the first time.
In a £12 million deal this summer, the midfielder joined Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq, a move that was rife with controversy.
Henderson was a prominent ally for LGBTQ+ communities while he was at Liverpool, thus it was highly criticized when he decided to relocate to a nation where those communities are illegal.
The 33-year-old stated to The Athletic that he didn’t “feel wanted” by the team and that he would prefer to bid Anfield “goodbye” if given the opportunity.
Supporters of his were understandably outraged by the interview, and a prominent homosexual rights organization accused him of trying to “rebuild his brand” as a result.
