Prior to making a significant makeover of the midfield area this year, the Reds were said to be “highly interested” in the 23-year-old.
Toward the close of the transfer window, Lindstrom finally made the switch to the 2022–23 Serie A champions in a transaction reportedly worth around £25 million.
Speaking publicly after moving to Italy, the midfielder acknowledged that he is indeed a Liverpool fan but said he rejected signing with the Reds in favor of joining Napoli.
“After all, Liverpool existed, but would I be given playing time? Would visiting Liverpool be a wise move? It’s obvious that I support Liverpool everywhere. As a result, it might also be a really cool experience, Lindstrom told the Danish newspaper Tipsbladet.
“However, if I’m not playing, I might as well watch them for another team on television. I must now play some football because of my age.
The Reds had the biggest transformation of a single section of the field in recent club history, losing five senior midfielders and replacing them with four new additions.
Earlier in the summer, Lindstrom appeared to be a target for Liverpool, but it seems a lack of guaranteed minutes discouraged the Danish international from making the transition.
Jurgen Klopp’s new-look midfield for 2023–24 is already established as a result of the transfer deadline, despite the fact that he may have his eye on a move to Anfield in the future due to his Red allegiances.
“For this reason, I believe Napoli is a positive transition. It is a premier club, and they have stated that I will play and have plenty of opportunities.
The statements may surprise fans because there hasn’t been much coverage of Liverpool’s interest in compared to other teams.
