Liverpool’s transfer window is now closed, so fans have been discussing the positives, negatives, and what-might-have-been.
Every year it seems to drag on longer, but eventually all attention is on football. The hosts of the podcasts and The Late Challenge had a lot to think about after the summer transfer window closed. Gareth Roberts and Paul Cope.
The two agreed that Liverpool’s transfer window has had more positives than disadvantages, but there was a lingering suspicion that the Reds didn’t quite push the boat out, as they discussed on Wednesday’s episode.
“I’m not standing outside Anfield with a pitchfork about how it’s gone, but I do feel it could have gone better,” Roberts said of how things turned out.
“There needs to be a strategy in place, and you need to have enough targets lined up so that you can say, ‘There’s no way we’re starting this season without a center-half because there’s an evident vacuum there.
There is optimism surrounding Liverpool, but it’s not a good sign when the manager says, “We need to be lucky with injuries.”
Cope expressed a similar sentiment, saying he was happy with Jurgen Klopp’s starting lineup but felt we were lacking in defense.
“Gomez, Konate, and Matip have really bad injury records, and Konate is already hurt,” he remarked. We need to be lucky with injuries, Klopp stated, and he’s already hurt.
