Mohamed Salah is not with the Egypt squad for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia, but it is not tied to his future at Liverpool.
Salah was one of nine foreign-based players called up by Rui Vitoria for Egypt’s clashes with Ethiopia and Tunisia this month, joining a 26-man squad.
But the Liverpool forward is not in training with his teammates as his nation gets ready for Ethiopia’s visit to Cairo.
Instead, after the Reds’ 3-0 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday, Salah seems to have been photographed with his family at Legoland in Windsor earlier this week.
In light of the fact that Egypt, the group’s top seed, has already qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations, the 31-year-old was rested for the match against Ethiopia.
Salah is scheduled to join his teammates for the friendly match against Tunisia on September 12 after the Egypt FA announced their decision on Saturday.
Even if his exclusion coincides with the last few days of the Saudi Pro League transfer window, it is a plus on the surface.
Salah has been given permission to rest up before a more important encounter next week because he was not needed for a dead-rubber match against Ethiopia.
Of course, until the Saudi deadline on Thursday passes, fears won’t be completely allayed, even though Al-Ittihad is allegedly drafting a new offer for position No. 11.
On Tuesday, the i was one of the publications to break the news of an impending proposal worth £200 million, citing “Saudi sources” who said that “Salah would at least want to hear Al-Ittihad out.”
The Liverpool Echo reports that Liverpool’s position is still that their fifth-highest goalscorer of all time is not for sale under any circumstances.
It’s unclear whether a record-breaking sum would make a difference, but it doesn’t seem plausible considering that the Premier League has already closed its transfer window and cannot sign a replacement.
