Mohamed Salah will remain, ruling out a move to Saudi Arabia
Mohamed Salah will remain at Liverpool this season despite the fact that there was never really any question about it when Al-Ittihad’s approaches were roundly rejected.
Salah is undoubtedly the most significant member in Jurgen Klopp’s team because he has contributed the most goals over the past five seasons since joining from AS Roma.
The fact that Liverpool maintained its stance in the face of a £150 million offer from the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad for a player who turned 31 in June was not unexpected.
Although the Saudi transfer window wasn’t set to end until Thursday night at 10 p.m., outlets like Sky Sports kept spreading rumors of a fresh offer.
Salah’s potential departure from Anfield prior to the deadline, however, has now been ruled out, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, who reports that he will remain.
As with rumors that Jadon Sancho will be moving to the Middle East, according to Ornstein, “a transfer won’t be happening.”
However, clubs owned by the Public Investment Fund of the royal family are likely to return in the future, so there is still significant interest in eventually bringing Salah to the Saudi Pro League.
“Although he won’t be moving anywhere tonight, well-documented interest in Salah remains for a potential future move, and there are good relations between all parties,” Ornstein continues.
Al-Ittihad was rumored to be willing to pay up to £200 million for the No. 11, which would be a record-breaking sum, but it made more sense for Liverpool to keep hold of their fifth-highest goalscorer of all time.
That is especially true now that the Premier League’s transfer window has closed, but they did not reject offers because they couldn’t sign a replacement.
Al-Ittihad’s opening offer, at a base price of £100 million plus an additional £50 million in add-ons, was turned down in England before the deadline.
