In September, 10 of Jurgen Klopp’s senior players are not playing for their respective countries, making it a demanding month for those who are.
The international break has forced the season to be put on pause after only four games, and we are once more tearing our hair out over how poorly timed the break was.
With an additional eight young players being called up, Liverpool today has 16 senior players representing their nation internationally.
Notably, 10 senior players are absent this month owing to injury, personal preference, or failure to make the team
Adrian, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, and Curtis Jones were all left out, and Thiago, Ibrahima Konate, and Conor Bradley were all left out because they were all on Liverpool’s injury list.
After suffering a hamstring injury in the victory over Aston Villa, Trent Alexander-Arnold was forced to withdraw from the England team and is now questionable to travel to Wolves.
Jarell Quansah, a young center back, was later dropped from the England U20 team; however, the Young Lions training camp was not informed of this decision.
After choosing to focus on settling in at Liverpool rather than accepting a call-up for the U21s, Ryan Gravenberch caused a stir in the Netherlands camp.
Accepting a young player’s decision to settle in at his new club in order to move forward and perform better for club and nation would seem to be welcomed, but obviously not!
Players who are not participating for their nations will be given some time off. Konate, for instance, sat in the stands to watch France defeat Ireland on Thursday night.
He and the other players on the injury list, though, will be concentrating on their recovery the entire time to make sure they are available quickly following the international break.
From the time of their return until the October international break, Jurgen Klopp’s team will play seven games in 22 days.
