In order to visit his native Germany during the current international break, Jurgen Klopp paid a visit to his old team, Mainz, on Saturday.
At one point, Klopp was thinking about taking a year off in 2024, but after agreeing to a new contract with Liverpool, he postponed his intentions until at least 2026.
However, it is obvious that his priorities have changed recently because, rather than traveling abroad for warm-weather vacations like he always did, he now uses the time to see his new granddaughter.
This calls for frequent journeys home to Germany, where he also planned a visit this month to Mainz, the team where he started his managing career.
A reputation built over eleven years as a player with Mainz and seven more as manager helped him land moves to Dortmund in 2008 and Liverpool seven years later.
It is hardly surprising that he is regarded as a legendary figure at the club given that his biggest accomplishment at Mainz was being promoted to the Bundesliga in 2003/04.
In preparation for their friendly match against MSV Duisberg on Saturday, Klopp traveled to Mainz. Before the game, he greeted fans from a stage outside the Bruchwegstadion.
