Following his most recent international debut for his homeland, Dominik Szoboszlai distributed six shirts to delighted Hungary supporters.
After guiding his team to an important 2-1 victory over Serbia three days earlier in the Euro 2024 qualifying round, the midfielder oversaw his nation’s team’s 1-1 tie with the Czech Republic in a friendly match over the weekend.
Szoboszlai has already established himself as a Kop favorite due to his early performances in a Liverpool jersey, and it is obvious that he is also well-liked by Hungary supporters.
Fans naturally clamoured for the 22-year-old’s Hungary jersey when the results of Sunday’s match were communicated with the Czech Republic, as is frequently the case these days.
After the final whistle, Szoboszlai gave six shirts to young fans to show his appreciation for their continued support in an effort to put as many smiles on faces as possible.
The Hungary captain stated to M4 Sport that the kind of support he receives feels “strange,” but he was thrilled that his performance and post-game gesture “was able to make them happy.”
The fact that 80% of the crowd is sporting Szoboszlai or Liverpool shirts is unusual, but it feels great, he said.
“I attended national team games in the same way when I was a young child, and I once hoped that they would one day view me the same way I would any athlete at the time, so I’m thrilled that I was able to make them happy.
“For that reason, I brought as many jerseys as I could and walked around to distribute five or six more. When you can only award one after a game and you observe the dejected expressions, it is sad. I sincerely hope I was able to cheer up six folks today.
Szoboszlai, who is only 22 years old, appears to be revered by the supporters of his country despite having only played 34 times and scored seven goals.
Szoboszlai appears to be going into a “different dimension” as Liverpool, according to Hungary manager Marco Rossi, who gave him the captain’s armband last year.
His early goal against Aston Villa was perhaps the standout moment of his spectacular debut at Anfield.
The midfielder will be looking to make an even bigger impact in the coming weeks after making his £60 million price look like a relative bargain in today’s market.
