On Saturday, Liverpool overcame a goal deficit for the third time in their past four games, and Andy Robertson credited a strategy tweak.
The Reds have trailed 1-0 this season against Bournemouth, Newcastle, and now Wolves before coming back to win all three games
For Jurgen Klopp, it will be a concerning trend, but his team’s resilience and spirit in the face of adversity remain a strength.
In an interview with TNT Sports following the game, Robertson, who scored to make it 2-1 in a 3-1 victory, attributed the success to the manager’s change in formation.
“I can probably tell you a portion of it, but not all of it!”
“You may make excuses about young men traveling the world and other things, but ultimately, you have to be prepared to play the game.
“I estimate that it took us 45 minutes to enter it. Wolves were the superior team; they produced the best opportunities and put us under pressure, which caused us to commit too many errors.
But in the second half, we came out, made a minor formation change, and switched to something like a 4-4-2, and I think it worked.
“We started pushing people higher up the pitch, and I think we dominated the second half, probably got what we deserved out of the second-half performance.”
The adjustment was acknowledged by Klopp in his post-game interview with TNT Sports, and he noted how it “changed pretty much everything.”
He explained that Luis Diaz took the place of a struggling Alexis Mac Allister at halftime because “we couldn’t change five times at halftime.”
“It gave us a little more natural speed up front, and we had more control of the game.
“At halftime, we altered pretty much everything, and it went very well.
“The second half was pretty nice after a really poor first half. Should I watch that every week? No. But I accept it for now.
