Former Liverpool forward puts new team atop the Championship with his first-ever goal.
Forward Liam Millar returned to England two years after leaving Liverpool, and on his debut, he helped his new team win the Championship.
After making an impression in the Fulham youth, Millar spent five years on Merseyside, starting against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup fourth-round replay victory in 2020.
But in the summer of 2021, he moved to Basel, where he played 98 times while contributing to another 10 goals and 13 himself.
Millar then returned to England on deadline day with a season-long loan move to Preston, making his debut as a starter in the match against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.
The 23-year-old scored his first goal for North End in just 25 minutes, and it ended up being the game-winning goal in a 2-1 triumph.

When his own opportunity presented itself, Millar had previously helped Duane Holmes score the opening goal; his cross had just brushed Conor Hazard’s fingertips before being headed in within 37 seconds.
The Canadian was located on the left wing by Milutin Osmajic, and Millar surged into the box before cutting to his right and bending in a goal.
Despite Ryan Hardie’s goal for Plymouth in the second half, Preston managed to cling on to earn three points, returning them to the top of the Championship.
The only unbeaten team in the English second tier is presently Ryan Lowe’s group, which is ahead of Leicester and Ipswich.
According to early indications, Millar will play a significant role going forward. He now teams up with Calvin Ramsay, who is on loan from Liverpool, as well as fellow graduates Ben Woodburn and Layton Stewart.
After the game, Man of the Match Millar remarked, “It was a dream debut for me, and I’m really excited for what’s next in the Preston shirt.”
“We play against Birmingham on Tuesday, and I really hope to keep that going.”
He later said of his Championship debut, “It was good. It was quick and intense, and I ended up with a minor cramp, but everything turned out well.
It was a quick game and really different from Switzerland, but I think it suits me better and I’m eager to keep playing.
