Jurgen Klopp outlined the reasoning for his unexpected lineup selection, which saw Liverpool make 11 changes.
The other teams in Liverpool’s Europa League group are Toulouse, Union SG, and LASK, and their away match against LASK on Thursday represents maybe their biggest test yet out of the remaining six games.
Despite this, Klopp has made a number of adjustments, starting Caoimhin Kelleher, Ben Doak, and Kostas Tsimikas.
In an interview with TNT Sports, the manager gave an explanation for his selections, saying, “I wanted a team today that wanted to prove a point, that wants to show up, and that will enjoy the game I’m 100 percent sure.
We made the revisions to demonstrate that we are truly committed to giving this tournament everything we have.
When asked about Doak’s involvement, Klopp said: “We have to bring him on the ball and then we can all see his superior one-on-one skills.
“We are going to see how much he can contribute after we let him start.”
Along with Doak, Ryan Gravenberch is starting for Liverpool for the first time. The boss described how he and Harvey Elliott could collaborate on projects.
The places are obvious, and Harvey would have benefited from starting more games. He also makes excellent contributions during training. Ryan has demonstrated a genuine desire to participate from the moment he entered, said Klopp.
