It is understandable why David Moyes is “fed up” after another journey to Anfield ended in a loss; he has now made 20 efforts to halt his winless streak.
West Ham’s visit on Sunday marked Moyes’ 20th appearance at Anfield as the opposing manager; the 19 prior occasions never preceded a victory.
Only Bobby Robson (23) had more managerial visits to Anfield without a win throughout his time as manager with Everton, Sunderland, Man United, and now the Hammers. His stint with each club finished with seven draws and now 13 losses.
While a Liverpool supporter would find the recent string of defeats humorous, Moyes is quite “fed up” after his team “played quite well” in his most recent attempt to break the streak.
“When you come here, I’ve been here so many times – I actually think we played quite well today, did a lot of good things,” Moyes stated following the game.
But I always leave here saying the same things, so I’m getting a little tired of repeating it.
“However, Mickey had a terrific chance with a header, and the goalkeeper made a great stop off Tomas Soucek, so we had our moments, much like Liverpool, but that had to be expected at this place.
“We had good control, but the magic moments to get the chance [were limited],” he continued. You might only get three opportunities if you come here, compared to 10 in Liverpool.
“You have to hope that nine of them will be missed. When you have three, you have to believe that you can somehow take two of them and achieve your goal.
To West Ham’s three major opportunities, according to FotMob, Liverpool had seven; the visitors didn’t convert any, and in the second half, Jurgen Klopp’s team proved to be too much to handle.
The outcome not only worsens Moyes’ struggles at Anfield, but it also makes him the manager of a team that has now lost 25 times against Liverpool, with an overall score of 55-13. Ouch.
But Moyes’ troubles don’t end with trips to Liverpool; he has also yet to triumph in a Premier League away game against Man United, Chelsea, or Arsenal.
