The spectacular recent resurgence of Curtis Jones is credited to his “Scouse mentality,” according to Liverpool assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders.
The 22-year-old has made strides in recent months to establish himself as a major member of Jurgen Klopp’s team after putting a dreadful period in which his career was severely affected by injury behind him.
In the last stretch of the previous year, Jones established himself as a reliable starter, and he has since maintained that position by forging a perfectly balanced trio alongside summer acquisitions Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister.
The situation is unimaginable to the young person, who missed significant periods of the 2022–23 season due to a stress injury that wouldn’t go away.
Lijnders responded when asked how this turnaround was possible, “Because he has a Scouse attitude.
“Like Trent, their dedication is hard to put into words. There is nothing else in their lives that they are as passionate about as the game and the ball.
“These guys were very young when they were at our academy, and Curtis has now appeared in 100 games for Liverpool. I’m incredibly happy of them. ‘Up to a 100 Premier League games [now]!’ I exclaimed to him as we were ascending the stairs.
You can see something that we truly needed at that time if you look back at the last 10 games of the previous season, when we changed our formation. He brought the midfield energy at that time.
“And he continued going; for that reason, he deserved to begin this season and play games.
But if you ask Curtis, he’ll say that he’s thrilled that Alexis and Dominik are here, and that’s also the Scouser attitude, which emphasizes that the team comes first.
