After the controversy surrounding his disallowed goal against Tottenham, Luis Diaz has provided his perspective, acknowledging that the VAR decision “hit him very hard.”
The exceptional brilliance of Diaz’s finish for the goal controversially overturned was largely disregarded in the aftermath of Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Tottenham.
Rightfully, the focus in the wake of the incident was on the mistake made by VAR Darren England and the crew of referees, and PGMOL was compelled to make significant adjustments going ahead.
On a more fundamental level, though, Diaz was denied a fantastic third goal of the season that would have inspired Liverpool with 10 men toward a probable win.
The erroneous goal scorer had kept silent as Jurgen Klopp offered his perspective and PGMOL president Howard Webb will discuss the subject on Sky Sports on Tuesday night.
However, Diaz has since expressed his opinion while speaking to reporters prior to Colombia’s matchups with Uruguay and Ecuador.
“The aim problem was a little tricky. I was impacted really hard at the moment,” he acknowledged.
“But not just for me; for all of my coworkers as well. We spoke extensively about it during halftime because it was a helpful goal for us.
“These occurrences are common; referees are fallible people. There will be another chance, therefore we must stay patient.
Diaz has already moved on, much like Klopp and his teammates. The winger is now focused on Colombian duty after traveling to Barranquilla on Monday with Darwin Nunez.
On Thursday, a World Cup qualifier played in oppressive heat with temperatures above 30 degrees will feature the Liverpool strikers on opposite teams.
When asked about their chats on the plane, Diaz said, “More than anything, we spoke about how the game was going to be difficult.
“We made jokes about how ‘you are going to lose,’ etc. We hope for the best for each other and the winner.
“He is aware of how difficult the heat issue and playing today are.
“He responded nicely to my explanation of the temperature. His turn has arrived for the best to triumph. We will proceed to search for the outcome.
