Although Alexis Mac Allister is a fierce defender for Liverpool, he wasn’t always so sure of himself.
After winning the World Cup for his nation in December, the Argentine transferred from Brighton to Liverpool for £35 million in the summer.
After some convincing from his brother Kevin Mac Allister, Mac Allister confessed that football stickers have played a role in his long trip to the top of the globe.
When invited to play in his debut 11-a-side match for Club JJ Batista against Independiente, Liverpool’s midfielder said it was “a bit of a funny situation.”
Alexis Mac Allister, who recently joined Liverpool, wants to build on the World Cup he won with Argentina last year (Mike Egerton/PA).
He said to LFC TV: “Playing on a full-sized pitch wasn’t exactly something I’d been thinking about because I was still very small for my age.
But at that point, we were missing one or two guys, so they started giving me packets of football stickers to play with.
At first, Mac Allister was hesitant to play a year up, but the stickers put him at ease.
The 24-year-old added, “They started out with only the one [packet], but soon went up to 10 since I kept asking them for more.
The stickers let Mac Allister feel more at ease after first being reluctant to play a year higher.
The 24-year-old continued, “They first had just one [packet], but quickly increased to ten since I kept begging them for more.
